Therapy

All of our services are provided via secure videoconferencing. We specialize in treatments that are supported by research, focus on changing your relationship with your thoughts and emotions, and have the primary goal of changing behavior so you can live a more meaningful and valued life. We each have areas of specialization that we developed throughout our careers. You can expect active, structured, and goal-oriented sessions with us. We provide thorough diagnostic assessments, an understanding of your concerns, a clear treatment plan, and we monitor your progress through treatment.

First (Intake) Appointment

90 minute appointment to gather information about your current symptoms, background information, and your goals for treatment. You will receive questionnaires to complete before your appointment. Your therapist will review this information before the appointment so the appointment time can be used to gather more detailed information. At the end of the intake appointment, your therapist will provide a conceptualization (and diagnoses if applicable) of your concerns and discuss treatment options. You will collaboratively discuss the treatment plan and design a plan that works best for you.

Ongoing Therapy Appointments

The length and frequency of appointments depend on your treatment plan. Typically, appointments are 45 minutes once a week for 12-20 sessions. The length of DBT treatment is longer. Each therapy appointment generally includes a review of your home practice, introduction of a new skill or concept, practicing that skill or concept in session, and setting home practice goals.

Between Appointments

The therapies we provide are active. They require practicing skills and tracking progress outside of your appointments.

Treatment Progress and Ending Therapy

You and your therapist will set personalized goals at the beginning of treatment. Your progress on these goals will be monitored through questionnaires, behavior tracking, your impression of your progress, and your therapist’s professional conceptualization. The types of therapy we provide are designed to be relatively short-term – getting you into your life and out of therapy as soon as possible. DBT is an exception as it is a longer treatment.

Maintenance of Treatment Progress

After meeting your treatment goals and/or completing a course of therapy, you and your therapist will discuss a plan of transitioning out of therapy. It may be beneficial to meet every other week or monthly for a period of time to help with successful integration of the learned skills and concepts into your life.
